Lisette Pérez Esquenazi

Flutist, singer, composer,

music teacher and music therapist

Lisette was born in Havana, Cuba. She graduated from the National Professional School of Arts in Havana, Cuba as a flutist and music teacher; she studied Educational Sciences with a mention in music at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Quito; and she did a master's degree in Music Therapy at ESNECA Business School, Spain. Lisette has been playing in different countries as a soloist and being part of orchestras, symphonics bands, musical groups and chamber music.Her roots have called her back from Canada, through Alma Kubana she offers some of the best Cuban music.

Gil Kafka

Guitar, singer,composer

Gilbert was born in Italy but his heart is Hungarian as his parents. He grew up in Montreal, studied jazz performance at the University of Toronto and music education at McGill University. He has always had a deep love for Latin American music and rhythms and is honored to be playing guitar for “Alma Kubana”. He writes and records his own compositions which are available on all major streaming services. He teaches high school music and performs around the Okanagan with various groups.

Daniel Kim

Trumpet, minor percussion and vocals

Born in South Korea, Daniel moved to Canada, where he currently practices dentistry. Outside of his day job, Daniel, a versatile trumpeter based in Kelowna, has carved a melodious path through various music groups in the local scene. With a diverse background spanning multiple musical genres, Daniel's true passion lies in the enchanting realms of jazz and Latin styles. His trumpet skills have harmonized with numerous ensembles, contributing a soulful touch to Kelowna's vibrant music community.  Whether he's serenading the audience with a smooth jazz melody or infusing energy with Latin grooves, Daniel's trumpet resonates as a testament to his artistic prowess and commitment to the rich tapestry of musical expression in Kelowna.

Darko Cuk

Bass and vocals

Darko Cuk came to Canada some 30 years ago from Croatia where he studied classical and jazz bass.  In Vancouver he furthered his Jazz education at the Cap College in the nineties and embarked on a professional career in '97.  Musical engagements took him touring around the world with cover bands and orchestras.  After making himself known in Kelowna he landed a 2nd bass position in the Okanagan Symphony and has been busy playing in a variety of bands around this beautiful valley.  Playing Latin music has been a particular passion of Darko’s since he can remember and he is super excited to be part of “Alma Kubana.”

Miguel Ángel Corona

Latin percussion

Miguel Ángel Ramírez Corona, was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Since his adolescence he was interested in Latin percussion, starting with the bongo. He received classes with teacher Efraín “Kasin”. He played with some musical groups such as “Los Caribe”, “Candela Son”, “Pico de Gallo”, “Orquesta San Francisco”, among others along the Pacific coast. Since his arrival in Kelowna, British Columbia he has been taking percussion lessons with maestro Trevor Salloum. He joined the musical groups “Alma Kubana” and “Latin Beat” in March 2024.
